As I’m getting ready to say goodbye to Santa Barbara after it’s had me for 4 years, I’m mostly feeling grateful; not only to have called such a beautiful place my home, but to have been tested and tried here in such a way that resulted in tremendous growth and understanding.
Santa Barbara will forever be the place that broke me and made me and gave me a new heart. Even something as precious as gold has to be brought in to the fire to be purified, and it only comes out more valuable (Zechariah 13:9).
“I know this transformation is painful, but you’re not falling apart; you’re just falling into something different, with a new capacity to be beautiful.” –William C. Hannan
I just feel so lucky that, no matter how painful or difficult it was sometimes, the Lord loved me enough to not let me remain the person I was when I first came to Santa Barbara almost 4 years ago. I’m grateful that, because of those difficult moments, I’m leaving here the person He brought me here to become.
“The first tear he made was so deep…that I thought it had gone right into my heart. When he began pulling the skin off, it hurt worse than anything I’ve ever felt. The only thing that made me able to bear it was the pleasure of seeing the stuff peeled off” (The Truest Thing About You).
Also, thanks for being pretty, Santa Barbara.
